What does New York have that my new city of Atlanta does not? Many things. But the most conspicuous is a radio show like The Brian Lehrer Show. It is simply the best news radio program out there. I miss it.
In August, I sat in my kitchen in Brooklyn and listened to this piece in which Lehrer interviewed David Finkel, national enterprise editor of The Washington Post and author of The Good Soldiers. Finkel talked about spending time with U.S. soldiers in Iraq and upon return after their service. I had my biases challenged; I wept; I felt richer for having spent 30 minutes listening to the radio.
I hope you'll take the time and listen to this interview. I don't think you'll regret it. And it may make you want to podcast Lehrer, just like I do...
I'm a huge fan of radio, and though I was sad to move away from Decatur a few years ago, I shouted "good riddance" to Atlanta radio. Well, public radio that is. If you have an iPhone, Android, or iPad try downloading the apps for public radio (or maybe even for Brian's show specifically). You can pretty easily listen to other stations--I only listed to WABE about half the time and ended up giving my pledge dollars to MPR after a few years.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Twitter follow and blessings in your call. It's a solid place and I wish you and yours the best. Peace.
Adam, good to be connected with you. Alas, sadly, I do not yet have an app-able phone. On the bright side, I save money by not having to pay for a data plan!

Gracias, Mark! I now do the Lehrer podcast--the only downside is how many segments I have to delete without listening to them...
