James and I strolled through Chelsea today. We came upon the Wired Magazine store which was full of all kinds of very sleek looking and generally useless gadgets. But we went in because James could see through the window that there was a "CAR!" in the back of the store. Turns out it was a new Lincoln something-or-other that was tricked out with all kinds of high-tech gadgets.

The two salespeople couldn't have been nicer to James. They moved the seat as far forward and as high as it could go. They showed him how to change the radio station. The young woman in the picture showed him music videos on the TV--James rocked out to Britney Spears (... Beth's son).

The male salesperson (not shown) told me he's here from Detroit 5 days out of the week. He goes home to his family--with two kids under 2--for the other two days. I could see by the way he talked to James that he misses his own kids. It was palpable. After the holiday season ends, he said, he is out of a job.
