One thing that makes me an irregular blogger, journaler, and fitful preacher is what I call my "shut up" instinct. The "shut up" instinct works like a bypass switch inside me. It will take an instinct I have to write, comment, make some observation, and radically override that instinct with the deafening cry "SHUT UP!"
I don't know where this instinct comes from, but I listen to it. I usually shut up.
I find quite often that my intellectual shortcomings and the clumsiness of words gets in the way of any truth I might hope to convey with them.
Words hardly bear truth. Things themselves, in action, do.
I wish I had the "shut up" gene.
ReplyDeleteAll I do is spout off my mouth, when I should listen. It is a lesson I would like to learn.
