Finding Things of Value.

The last three days in a row I have found things of value on the sidewalk.

Saturday night on a stretch of 4th Ave. in Brooklyn, I picked up a folded-up $10.

Sunday afternoon in the Village, I found an almost-full booklet of "Forever" stamps.

Yesterday morning near my apartment, I found a folded-up $5.

What's going on?

A sign? I've long believed that "thoughtless" gifts--gifts in which the giver doesn't know they're giving and the receiver isn't sure what they've received is even a gift--are meaningful manifestations of God's grace.

Perhaps I will pray that my life be such that I give to others in ways that I'm not even aware that I'm giving something....

I guess I need to start walking around in Brooklyn. Last week I did see what appeared to be a vintage prophalactic on the seat accross from me on the 1 train, of course I was coming from Chelsea and it was 3 am, but nonethelesss, it would be nice to find 10 bucks instead.

The other day, while walking home , I found my husband strolling my son on the very same sidewalk walking towards me. That is always a thing of value. RB
